This interpretation usually takes place in an interpreting booth equipped with all the necessary audio equipment (e.g. microphone, headphones) where the interpreter speaks while simultaneously listening to and comprehending the next sentence, and interpreting the sentences in the target language which is relayed over headphones.

Usually, there would be more than one interpreter who interprets a conference or meeting and they work for a period of maximum 6 hours a day in rotation. For meetings which will last more than 3 hours there will be two interpreters working in rotation.
